EABL Foundation launches 2011 scholarship application drive

June 3, 2011. EABL Foundation has announced the commencement of this year’s scholarship application drive that will see 20 new students join private and public universities across East Africa.

The scholarship program is open to bright but needy students across the region wishing to study Business, Information Technology, Engineering and Food Science. This scholarship covers tuition, books, accommodation, monthly stipend and a mentorship programme for those students that are awarded.
“We are very conscious of the essential role education plays in the communities in which we operate. We are not only empowering people but also investing in their future and that of their communities,” said EABL Group Corporate Relations Director, Brenda Mbathi.

EABL Foundation Scholarship program started in 2001 as Guinness Strathmore Scholarships but - was later expanded to cover the entire region in order to allow more students apply.
Successful applicants in the last five years have been accepted to Strathmore University, University of Nairobi, University Dar el Salaam, Makerere University among others.

Strathmore Scholarship ChequePaul Ochieng’, Strathmore Research and Consultancy representative and the university’s Dean of Student, thanked the EABL Foundation for their contribution as he received a cheque worth KShs19.5 Million for this year’s intake from the Foundation.

To date close to 140 students have been awarded with the EABL Foundation Scholarships, worth over Kshs 130 Million in the last nine years.

Applications for Strathmore University to study Business, Commerce and Information Technology will close on 14th June 2011 while those wishing to study Engineering or Food Science in Public Universities have until 22nd July 2011 to apply.

Students who completed their secondary education in 2009 and have been invited to join any public university can apply while those who sat for their exams in 2010 and wish to attend a private university will be eligible for Strathmore University.
