Over 30,000 Mengo-Kisenyi Residents to benefit from EABL Foundation Sponsored Water Project
More than 30000 residents of Mengo-Kisenyi (about 2300 households) are set to benefit from the recently sponsored water project. The Minister for Water, Hon. Maria Mutagamba officially commissioned the EABL Foundation sponsored Water and Sanitation project in Mengo-Kisenyi.
The project valued at UGX 175 million aims to promote best hygiene, water and sanitation practices through mass awareness creation and sensitization, as well as provision of water and sanitation facilities at household level and at community level (public places).

This project will provide the local community with 3 toilets, 18 water kiosks and 10 standpipes.
Speaking after commissioning the project, Hon. Mutagamba thanked EABL and Diageo Foundations for their commitment to helping local communities. She noted that the area required assistance in water and sanitation facilities and thanked both companies for their timely contribution.
“The Government is committed to working with private sector to providing basic water supply and sanitation facilities and we thank the Foundations for their contribution in this area,” said Hon. Mutagamba.

Uganda Breweries Managing Director – Mr Baker Magunda, said of the project: “We are delighted to officially commission this project for the Mengo-Kisenyi community. Water is a key area of our community focus. Without easy access to clean water, development both physically and economically is severely effected. I am very pleased that the Mengo-Kisenyi community will greatly benefit from the Water of Life project’.

The Executive Director for Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI), Dr. Jjuuko Fulgensio thanked both EABL and Diageo Foundations for their continued focus on water projects. “Access to clean water is key to Uganda’s development. The Mengo-Kisenyi project, will not only give access to clean water, but also the health and welfare will improve and I also expect the community will see a bonus to the local economy as food and crop production in the area will increase. We thank the Foundations for their investment in life changing water projects”, said Dr. Fulgensio.

EABL and Diageo Foundations partnered with CIDI to manage and facilitate the project. CIDI worked very closely with the local community in construction and supervision. CIDI also trained the local community on how to manage and run the water and sanitation facilities.
