EABL Foundation Water of Life Project Benefits Gatanga People
The Assistant Minister for Finance, Hon Peter Kenneth today received four high storage water tanks funded by EABL Foundation for two health facilities in Gatanga, Thika district.
The Water of Life project will benefit at least 20,000 residents visiting the Gatunyu dispensary and Kirwara health center in the constituency. The four tanks have a total capacity of 30,000 liters and will be used to harvest water the current rain season.
Speaking during the function at the EABL offices in Ruaraka, the assistant minister who is also the area MP said residents of Gatanga have in the past struggled to find water due to lack of the proper storage facilities.
"These tanks will be very useful to those health facilities because it will ensure that the water is harvested during the current rains can be used during the dry season.”
Mr Kenneth added, “I want to thank EABL for the support they have given the communities in East Africa. This is not the first time my constituency has received support from EABL Foundation as a few weeks ago we received tree seedling which the company employees helped plant.”
EABL group managing Director, Mr Gerald Mahinda said the EABL Foundation was keen to assist in sustainable development projects.
“It has been our experience that people want something that can be sustained long after the project is complete. Water is a key area of our community focus through the EABL Foundation. Without access to clean water, development both physically and economically is severely effected.”
The Water of Life programme, funded by EABL Foundation has helped more than 100,000 East Africans to gain access to clean water in recent years. The company has funded two other major water projects in Kenya- Nyatigo in Kisumu and Wepma in Thika district; both projects were commissioned last year. A rainwater-harvesting project is also running in Kabale in Uganda.
