Kapchorwa Barley – A Growing Success
The Uganda Breweries Ltd, (UBL) equatorial barley-growing project is a success story that has transformed the lives of the people in Kapchorwa.

The lowering of the excise duty for locally produced goods gave UBL the opportunity to establish barley growing in Uganda.

UBL provided barley seeds, fertiliser and pesticides on an interest free arrangement to Kapchorwa Commercial Farmers' Association - KACOFA to plant equatorial barley on a trial arrangement. The trial crop was a great success as it proved that KACOFA could grow high quality equatorial barley for brewing purposes.

EABL is very pleased with the success of the barley project. The company can now use the local barley to produce its new beer – SENATOR LAGER. Senator Lager is very affordable and Ugandan consumers can enjoy Senator knowing that it is a truly Ugandan product, using Ugandan barley.
