Kshs 12 Million to Famine Kitty
EABL Foundation handed a cheque of Kshs 12 Million to President Mwai Kibaki to go towards famine relief in the country.
EABL Chairman Mr Jeremiah Kiereini who presented the cheque called other likeminded foundations and corporates to donate generously towards the famine kitty.
EABL also went a step further with this initiative and teamed up again with Standard Charted Bank and Nation Media Group to revive the Save a Life Fund (SALF) aimed at assisting in the famine situation.
The fund donated 3.7m shillings soon after the re launch which went to buy food in Kilifi District that was distributed to over 8,000 people in the district.
In the same period, SALF gave a further Kshs 3.7 Million to Kenya Red Cross Society to buy and distribute food to residents of North Eastern Province where severe drought has affected thousands of people.
The Save A Life Fund was established in June last year to initially assist with the toxic maize poisoning in Eastern province and it was then extended to cover all areas of Kenya affected by famine.
