Kabale Households Harvest the Rain thanks to Uganda Breweries

Uganda Breweries joined hands with Two Wings Agroforestry Network (TWAN) to co-finance the provision of water for 100 households in Kabale District over a 12-month period.

Women who are trained on site through the project are constructing the tanks. The 100 homes are being provided with household rainwater harvesting facilities – a 4m3 water tank, guttering and pipes. The new facilities tap rainwater from rooftops and provide water directly at people's homes.

Kabale is one of the Districts in Uganda served with abundant rainfall (approximately 1m falls per year). A lot of productive time is lost on fetching water annually moreover from a distance of not less than 1km.

Tapping the rain falling on rooftops and storing it in household water tanks is an ideal way of improving water access in rural areas. Women and children are thus saved from carrying water from distant springs and ponds up the steep slopes of Kabale district. Uganda Breweries is supporting this innovative way of improving access to safe water in Uganda .
